stuck in 4wd

I have a 74 jeep cj5 amc 304 V8. I have moved it in and out of 4wd brfore but now for some reason i cant. iv removed the inspection cover and im not missing any bolts, i will say that 1974 was a pretty crappy set up, but for now thats not the problem. all the joints and pivots move but there is one thing that doesnt move. all that is used to push and pull a shock-like thing which doesnt move. so does anybody know how to fix this problem?

try a rough jerking motion in reverse while moving the shifter should pop out
just dont hole shot it lol
