TJ Flare Install

Buy some 5 /16 hex head stainless tex screws (also called sheet metal screws) and some Stainless washers. very cheap money (less than $8 to get mine) and they will never rust!

Redrooster did you run your rear flares backwards? With the tab in the front?

Tex screws are self tapping!
I never heard of a Tex screw. I thought that was a typo.

I don't know what tab you are referring to. There is a formed lip down at the bottom corners that wraps around the edge of my body. I don't know if I put them on backwards or not. I held them up and determined which side looked better and made some marks and cut the fenders. They are level though. I would say that the part of the flare that is right behind the door is probably the longer side if that helps.
The best thing to do is use a utility knift to trim off any tabs you have. That way you can place the fender on the flat surface any where you want. I used a pair of Quickgrip clamps from Lowes to hold them in place so I could stand back and look. Then I would trace the inside of the flare onto the body with a permanent marker. Remove the flare and cut away. Bear in mind that I did this before the paint job, so you will want to use some tape over the areas to be cut so that the blade guard doesn't beat up the paint.
Just bring it over to the house this weekend and I'll cut it for you. I love to cut away useless sheet metal.

Tex screw is the little 5/16 head self tapping screw that is used to secure sheel metal duct work in HVAC systems, they are also very similar to the ones that hold the YJ hard top to the windshield. You can get them at any hardware store, Like I stated earlier, A more common name for them is sheet metal screws. The also come in an aluminum finish and a galvinized finish.

Yeah, that's what I used. I just call them self tappers. We are on the same shhet of music. Now back to installing them....
