Wheels and Tires, Power and a couple other n00b questions...

Front tow hooks on a YJ

Ok Ok Ok FINALLY a TJ question. WOOHOO!!!!

31's will fit GREAT under your Stock TJ. As you stated you will prolly not get Swaybar Disconnects so you are fine with 31X10.50. Especially with the Crager 15" Rims. Those rims come with a 3.75 backspacing and you are set.

The lift is not needed but if you want a lift I will suggest http://www.rubiconexpress.com Budget Boost.

There are other Tires out there that will be good for you. I will suggest you stick to All-Terrians since you will be doing little off-roading. These will give you many more miles on the road but still give you some good traction in the Dirt.

The BFGs will not work on the Cragar Streetlocks but there are many other A/Ts that will accomodate you. The Cragar Street-locks look like they have a Really wide outer lip. This protects your Beads.

They do have MT Baja Radials that aren't "Bias Ply" but again these will never last you as long as an A/T.

:::Edit:::
P.S. Check out my Pics in the Readers Rides section, listed under L33TJ33P That is what you will look like with a 2" lift + 31X10.50X15 on the Cragar Street-Locks. Hope this helps.

Got any good suggestions for A/Ts that will work with the Cragar Streetlocks? Something relatively easy to find?
I do like the BFGs and would probably consider switching wheels to use those tires..
Desertrat.com has a package with "U.S. Wheel Desert Crawlers" & BFGs...very similar to the Cragar Streetlocks, but I'm not familiar with the brand..

I'm guessing the MT Baja Radial MTXs are not an all-terrain then?

Those are the Cragars. They just called them something else. Look at the Oval on the Centercap :-D Check out http://www.tirerack.com That will give you a good view of MANY A/Ts. and no the Baja Claw MTR aren't A/T.

If BFG says their tires will not work on anything with a Bead Protector believe them not the folks trying to sell Rims.

Try this one PaSmokeeater uses these in the 33" and he seams to enjoy them. and they are easily found at local tire shops.

I have no complaints on mine but I found a special "Friend" deal with them since they had been discontinued in 99. Firestone for some reason have never (my point of view) been any good in the rain so I didn't suggest them.

Check this website out for reference.... http://ptheune.net/~pir/photos/Jeeps/Tires/Selector/index.htm

31s will fit fine. I have them on my 97. They may rub in full turn but thats an easy cheap fix: 2 washers on the steering stops. Mine doesn't rub but i have BFG A/T. If you are gonna drive mostly street and some beach, BFG A/Ts will be a good choice. I drive mostly on the beach when offroad and lots of highway driving and they are perfect. Hope this helps.

Hey, i have a 77 CJ5, I know there's a big difference there, but as far as tires, I went with Mickey Thompson Classic II 15x8 rims and a 31x10.50 Timberline A/T and it has a fairly agressive tread but is suppose to wear well. I drive mine on the interstate back and forth from college and it hasn't hardly wore any at all. At the same time, it does pretty good in the mud too though. Just an idea.
