yj wheel question

i just got a set of wheels for my yj for cheap. like "free" cheap. my only problem is that they have a 4" backspacing on a 15x7 and i will be running a set of 33x12.50-15 Mickey Thompson Baja Claws. will it be worth it to use a 1/4 inch wheel spacer to make my offset 3.75" on stock studs or should i just adjust my steering stops? will using the spacers cause any problems??

I'm not sure if you can fit 12.5in wide on a 15x7. I always thought that you would have to go for the 15x8s.

They will fit on a 7" wheel. I wouldn't run 1/4" spacers, those are the kind that float behind the wheel and put more leverage on the lugs. I'd go with 1" spacers minimum as they bolt to the hub and the wheel bolts to the spacer.

I think you can get by just fine with no spacer if you choose to.

Ditto! The only difference if you decide tu run the 33" 12.50 on a 15X7 is that they will bulge a little more than on a 15X8.

i ran 32x11.5's on my stock (ex jeep) 91 rims w/no problems - as for the spacers - i'd mount the tires and adjust the stops.... if you dont like the turning radius you end up with you can always get the spacers after the fact - and yea.. stay away from the floaters - you may as well use washers - go with the adapters - just my $.02
edit= sorry - reread the orig. post - misread the tire width.... my bad but still should be okay - i'm running 12.5's now on 8" and cant see how the 1" diff would hurt - give you more bulge which = more rim protection (in my opinion...) - you can see how the sidewall acts on my rims in my pic -

i used to work for a tire company. if its a 15 inch rim you can put any 15 inch tire on it. it will just bulge more. but if running low pressures you will run a higher risk of slipping the bead. i found that out on my own... only it took me 4 times to realize it ....hmmm.... i might be getting a lil slow in my old age...
