Cool Air Intake Cleaning

I have an Airaid Cool Air Intake on my jeep. I have been told that I have to get a special kit to clean it. That I can not just take an air compressor to it. Is this true?

Yup, it's true. You can purchase the filter kit from a local parts house. I use the K&N kit. Follow the instructions that comes with the kit and it will be like a brand new filter.

Assuming the Airaid filter is like a K&N (I have a K&N in my Sport Trac but thinking of getting the Airaid for the Jeep), when it looks dirty spray both sides with the cleaner, let it sit for 10-15 minutes, then wash it with hot water going from the back side to the front. The instructions don't say that you have to let it dry before spraying the oil on but I always do. I clean the filter in the evening and let it sit overnight, spray the oil in the morning and put it back in before I go to work. You DO NOT need to soak the thing with oil, use just enough to wet it.
