I have an 86 cj7 with a Dana 44 rear end and want convert to disc breaks.do I just look for another Dana 44 with disc freaks or what can I do

google this to make sure... But I think you need 71-78 chevy 1/2 or 3/4 ton calipers
caliper mounting brackets from a 73-91 1/2 ton chevy 4x4
rotors from a 77-78 cj these rotors are 1 1/8" thick
ebrake cable from a explorer, yours may work.
zj proportioning valve

They sell complete kits for this or search the junkyards. I hear though that its not really worth the effort to put disks on (not much better performance). IDK thats just what I have heard. I find it hard to believe the disks are no better.

From my experience disks seem to work better when wet..

Discs work better when wet but drums stop better because of the wedging action formed when the brake shoe is pressed against the from. The reason they stopped using drums is because they work too well and the tend to lock up easier then disc brakes.
