RE: should this be deleted?
i recently finished my np435 swap into my 2.5 yj with a 231. well i took it out on the trail the last weekend and cruised the trail 4lo, 3rd gear most of the time, and then all of a sudden it started popping out of 4lo and wouldnt stay in. i disconnected my shift linkage and put it back in 4hi and continued on, no problems in 4hi. got to the rock garden we were headed to and slapped it back into 4lo via a wrench through my transmission hump. ran the entire rock garden no problems but as soon as i got back onto the trail to head out it popped out of 4lo. so i put it back in 4hi and continued like that for the rest of the day.
i finally got to pulling my case tonight to see if i could diagnose the problem, i had an idea of what i thought it was, and i thought i was close. i thought the gear that goes between the planetary and the input gear would be worn off real bad but the inside of the planetary was showing signs of wearing. so i replaced that with a better one, put it all back together and took it out around the neighborhood in 4lo, it worked for a few minutes, idled up my steep ass driveway in 1st gear and then i put it in 3rd and idled down the road and then put it in 4th and let it coast. then it popped out again. so now im out of ideas. it only does it in 4lo.
does anyone have a clue as to what may be going on?
