so you go to take off, you here a clunk

that aint right,

you get that rear end hunch

turn around throw her up on jacks, spin the wheels by hand, yep thats the rearend for sure.

pull the diff. cover. yep theres seven, yes seven of the spider gear teeth. ring fine, pinion fine, spider gears - SHOT.

of course the one thing i know nothing about rebuilding.

threw around differnt idears of junk yard rear end vs. taking it to a shop to replace spider gears.

which do you think would be cheaper?

(and yes, youre prob right, i was being stupid when i knocked them teeth loose. just dont tell my old lady, shes mad enough already)
 

i can almost garantee that a junkyard swap would be cheaper than taking it to a shop. all depends on how much work you're willing to put in yourself.
 
and, another thing to keep in mind, as is true with everything else, you get what you pay for.
