Most of the labor is in removal/install of the transmission, I'd jump on the $400 with a used transmission. I'd do it if you were close to me, for $300.

most shops around my area charge 500 just to drop the transmission, thats not even looking at it. ive pulled out plenty of transmissions by myself and its not hard, just not fun. its not as bad on a jeep cuz you have more room

Looks like some TJs had the AX-15 in them. Looky what I found.

I think the TJ's up through about 99 or 00 had the ax15.
