Helping my buddy with a busted front axle

One of the guys I wheel with is in a bit of a spot, and I'm heading up next weekend to help him wrench on his Jeep. It looks like the Dana 30 font axle on his 2016 JK was full of mud, and the gears / front tires locked up. He was driving home when it happened and said it was terrifying. He had it with a shop for a couple of months, and they said everything was destroyed in the axle, but they ended up not getting the parts needed, or doing any repairs, so he brought it home. We're hoping to open up the axle, and at least access the damage - see if he needs a new ring gear, pinion, carrier, maybe even axle shafts.

The problem that we're having is finding a set of 3.21 gears, to match what is in the back. I can't find 3.21 ring and pinion, or carriers anywhere other than ebay (used gears). Ideally, we'd just buy an entire new front axle with gears in it, since neither of us have experience installing gears.

What do you guys think? Any tips or recommendations? Should we take a stab at installing our own gears, maybe even upgrade the front and back to something larger?
