Lava Rock

Has anyone wheeled on lava rock? I am surounded by lava rock and sage brush and was just wondering if it was something to avoid or if it is just more fun.

I think the rock is pretty sharp that is why I am wondering.

Being a geologist, I can assure you that lava rock can be very sharp. It does depend on exactly what kind of lava rock you are on of course. But often as lava is erupted to form rock, it cools so quickly that it actually forms glass, which as you know is very sharp when broken. Out here in CA I've had to drive over some volcanic rock and was almost certian that I was going to come out with 4 flat tires but got lucky. On the flip side, it can be eroded and not be bad at all.

Where exactly are you wheeling? I may know more a bit more about the rock.

I broke me a driveshaft today

We trained with the Dutch Marines in Aruba and I can attest that lava rock is razor sharp. Also good to hide the snakes.

That is what I was afraid of. There is enough rock formations that you could have a serious trail but the lava rock made me stop and think huummmm would that tear tires like butter?

We wheel in an area with a lot of shale and it's like razors on the tires.
