With the success of the latest threads on the topics, I just wanted to interject this without creating a hi-jack on the other threads.

Since re-gaining power in Washington, some democrats are already pushing new and sweeping anti-gun legislation. Since so many on this site, like and appreciate our current right to own, I thought you had better educate yourself as to what is happening right now.

The Most Sweeping Gun Ban Ever Introduced In Congress; McCarthy Bill Bans Millions More Guns Than The Clinton Gun Ban

Saturday, February 24, 2007

On Feb. 14, 2007, Representative Carolyn McCarthy (D-N.Y.) introduced H.R. 1022, a bill with the stated purpose, “to reauthorize the assault weapons ban, and for other purposes.”

McCarthy’s verbiage warrants explanation. Presumably, what she means by “assault weapons ban” is the Clinton Gun Ban of 1994. Congress allowed the ban to expire in 2004 for multiple reasons, including the fact that federal, state and local law enforcement agency studies showed that guns affected by the ban had been used in only a small percentage of crime, before and after the ban was imposed.

With the nation’s murder rate 43% lower than in 1991, and the re-legalized guns still used in only a small percentage of crime, reauthorizing the Clinton Gun Ban would be objectionable enough. But McCarthy’s “other purposes” would make matters even worse. H.R. 1022 would ban every gun banned by the Clinton ban, plus millions more guns, including:

• Every gun made to comply with the Clinton ban. (The Clinton ban dictated the kinds of grips, stocks and attachments new guns could have. Manufacturers modified new guns to the Clinton requirements. H.R. 1022 would ban the modified guns too.)

• Guns exempted by the Clinton ban. (Ruger Mini-14s and -30s and Ranch Rifles; .30 cal. carbines; and fixed-magazine, semi-automatic, center-fire rifles that hold more than 10 rounds.)

• All semi-automatic shotguns. (E.g., Remington, Winchester, Beretta and Benelli, used for hunting, sport shooting, and self-defense. H.R. 1022 would ban them because they have “any characteristic that can function as a grip,” and would also ban their main component, called the “receiver.”)

• All detachable-magazine semi-automatic rifles-including, for example, the ubiquitous Ruger 10/22 .22 rimfire-because they have “any characteristic that can function as a grip.”

• Target shooting rifles. (E.g., the three centerfire rifles most popular for marksmanship competitions: the Colt AR-15, the Springfield M1A and the M1 “Garand.”)

• Any semi-automatic shotgun or rifle an Attorney General one day claims isn’t “sporting,” even though the constitutions of the U.S. and 44 states, and the laws of all 50 states, recognize the right to use guns for defense.

• 65 named guns (the Clinton law banned 19 by name); semi-auto fixed-magazine pistols of over 10 rounds capacity; and frames, receivers and parts used to repair or refurbish guns.

H.R. 1022 would also ban the importation of magazines exempted by the Clinton ban, ban the sale of a legally-owned “assault weapon” with a magazine of over 10 rounds capacity, and begin backdoor registration of guns, by requiring private sales of banned guns, frames, receivers and parts to be conducted through licensed dealers. Finally, whereas the Clinton Gun Ban was imposed for a 10-year trial period, H.R. 1022 would be a permanent ban.

Please be sure to contact your U.S. Representative and urge him or her to oppose H.R. 1022!

That's despicable, unconstitutional, and tyrannical.

Buy your guns now folks... and make sure you vote!!!

There is no freedom without the 2nd Amendment!

A little background here,
Before we had the Brady bill enacted I was a full FFL dealer. I bought and sold every type of gun out there including full automatic weapons. Once the Brady bill was enacted I had to surrender FFL since I didn't have a store front. I did have a lot of innovatory that I kept, one was case of 25 round clips for the Ruger 10/22 called "sweetlips". I bought them for 10$ apiece but during the ban I was selling them for over 150$ a piece (great mark-up).
So personally I loved the ban, but this law goes too far...having to sell my guns only through a licensed FFL dealer? My semi-auto Brietta shot gun? Its a frigging trap gun with a 34 inch long barrel and now its called a street sweeper?!?

I'm so tired of becoming a criminal by just owning something that I've had for years... They are really trying to turn good people into criminals

now your getting it!

Just quit your job, turn in all firearms, and suck off of the government, and you will be a friend of the socialist. All you have to do, it go out and re-elect them every so often.

Isn't that the truth...

Well I've always voted but now 2 of my kids are old enough to vote also. So thats 2 more on my side, and one of them feels real strong about the same things I do.....

We are well on our way to enslavement. Our government is no longer "by the people". It is so ridiculously big and out of control. Have you ever worked for a company that grew so large that the mismanagement was out of control? They lose touch with their employees and there becomes an "us -vs- them" mentality between the workforce and the management?

Well... we are there with our government. Our only hope would be to restore power to the states where government can be managed, but I fear we are well past the point of return.

I'd say it's still "by the people" but the people have gotten lazy, weak, and/or too stupid to understand what freedom really is.

"It behoves every man who values liberty of conscience for himself, to resist invasions of it in the case of others: or their case may, by change of circumstances, become his own."

some people I've heard basically qoute comercials and do'nt research much. Yes lazy weak uninformed , its sad

They're not getting my Benelli. I will shoot, and have no problem with it, if someone comes to my house to try and take away my second amendment right. Theres not a chance in hell. These people are as un-American as they come... That is clearly written into the Constitution, and leaves no room for interpretation.

I would give them my guns if they come to my door asking for them... Starting with the Lead. :D

I know, take your family and move to a mountain top somewhere in Idaho and they will just leave you alone.

oh wait, no, oh yeah, Randy Weaver tried that once...

I'll just move to England...no wait...how bout Australia? ... Nope, can't go there either. Maybe Mexico, they seem to be lawless there and besides, in a few more years they will all be here.
