At what mileage do you guys change your oil. I recently bought a new 2002 Sport? The book says to change it every 7500 miles. Should I change the oil like all other vehicle, or stick to the book? :-? [addsig]

I change my oil atleast once every 3,000 miles, more if I do a lot of water crossing. You might be able to wait 7,500 miles but better safe than sorry.[addsig]

That 7500 mile change is ok if you do alot of highway miles. But if your like most people and do alot of stop and go driving not to mention some dirty off roading, I would stay closer to the 3000 mile change[addsig]

3000 miles and the oil is changed. I have 152,000 plus miles and do not burn or leak oil. I feel blessed! tug[addsig]

You will all think Im crazy but.... once a year or every 25,000 miles filter every 6 months :-D Its called Amsoil synthetic. They guarantee it. Have had no problems so far. I know a guy who has over 250,000 miles on a neon motor doing the same thing with no oil related breakdowns.[addsig]

what do they guarantee??? that's pretty interesting actually... i'll stick with my 3,000 miles[addsig]

I drive mostly highway and burbs. So every 5,000 miles. Its much easier to
remember and sooner than the factory recommends.[addsig]

Around town driving, I would say 3000 miles.
Mostly highway miles, I would say 5000 miles.
(Assuming you are using a non-synthetic oil.)

i go with every 3K to be on the Safe side but it's up to you that's Just my 2 cents :-D [addsig]

actually... now that i think of it... i don't even really use the 3,000 mile deal.... what tells me even more efficiently is looking at the oil, and feeling it... [addsig]

Every 3,000 to 4,000 miles. I do not understand how these synthetics can claim to last 10,000 or 20,000 miles. I would think that the oil would get dirty and gritty.[addsig]

My 2 cents, Every 3,000 synthetic or regular...........[addsig]

I forgot to change oil in my 4.3 S10 once.
Went about 8 months (8,000 miles). I am
pretty lucky that was back in the days that
I had to commute 30 miles each way, since
my oil was not really too bad. Oil pressure
was still good, too. I love the GM 4.3! :)

What would you all suggest for a commute that is less than a mile round trip?? My Engine doesn't even warm up on my ride to work.[addsig]

If anything breaks that is oil related they pay for the repairs.

what do they guarantee??? that's pretty interesting actually... i'll stick with my 3,000 miles

I may be kinda anal, but I change mine once a month, whether it needs it or not. Also change it after wheelin, just in case. Good thing my oil changes are free at the shop I work in. :) [addsig]

Thanks for the tips everyone. I have just passed 3000 miles yesterday. My drive to work is 17 miles, all highway. I'll probably go every 5000. Nice in between number. The sad part is that I bought the Jeep on May 6, and I have already put that many miles on it. I got it with 23 miles. Man I love driving this thing. I took a one day trip to Panama City Beach just to go. BTW, nice informative site. I guess I'll stick around for a while. :-D [addsig]

I change my oil every 3 months. During that time I only put about 2600 miles on my jeep, but I believe in the old adage(sp?) "an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure". I do about 70% highway, 20% city and 10% dusty dirt driving.
