2000 Jeep Wrangler 4.0 / 6 cyl Auto

Ok....had enough of this. Your original post was titled "2000 Jeep Wrangler...." and then the text of your post said "2000 Jeep Cherokee...." ?!?! Which is it? Different animals. And then you dis'd Bounty Hunter. Not good. Bounty probably has forgotten more than I know about Jeeps. Then you mention this "trans. sync. device"?!?! And now it's a "transmission crank position sensor"?!? Hard to help someone when given this info.....just sayin'. And I have no idea what a "Senior" mechanic is.....I know I'm not one....but maybe you should just go to a "stealership" if you want a "Senior" mechanic. Good luck with your woes.

You're going about this all wrong...I would recommend he post this question in the cherokee section of pirate 4x4. I'm sure they would be more qualified to provide the advice he needs. Op if you choose to do this please post a link from this thread so we all may be enlightened as well.

Just saying ! I have taken everyone's advice and it was the 'different part of the World' that re-tuned
my response especially since Senior mechanics would know what a transmission crank position sensor is.

Don't take things so seriously, I interpreted the 'different part of the world' reference as a suggestion you might be calling a part by a name known outside the US. We do get many members and visitors here from outside the country. I don't think it was meant as an insult.

Now you're trying to say some level of mechanic knows what a CPS is. You didn't call it by this name to start, so many of us had no clue what you were talking about.

This forum is laid back and the members are friendly and helpful. Hope you find what you're looking for.

Where did you buy the crank sensor from. Many tomes I've seen and heard of them being bad right out of the box.
Also have you checked the speed sensor on the trans and wiring? A bad sensor will make the cluster do weird things between rpm and speed jumping.
Is the jeep throwing any codes is the CEL lite on?

2000 Cherokee Sport.jpgHere she is ~~ a 2000 4.0 Cherokee. 194,000 easy miles, great tires, trailer hitch only used occasionally for light transport.
The engine runs smoothly yet will not accelerate. I'd like to sell her to the highest bidder who can use her for parts and/or fixing. North New Jersey
Anyone interested can drop a line to me here. I will have a look at the trans and speed wiring in the mean time. Robert

194k on the engine. How is the exhaust and catalytic converter? Or the 02 sensors? How about a compression check?
